Marco Badalucci, the Chef of the Veranda del Cristallo Restaurant unveils one of his most cherished secrets: his Easter lamb recipe. A recipe that you can copy to surprise your relatives and friends on Easter day and pamper yourself by enjoying a special day in a merry and family atmosphere, with a dish that embodies the elegance of the most sought after five-star luxury hotel of the Dolomites. 

Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients for 8 people
2 bunches of fresh small onions, 10 cl of oil, 250g of green olives, 50g of parsley, 70 cl of Fermentino wine, 8 artichokes, 1kg of potatoes, 1 lamb weighing approximately 4 kg, 200g of Carasau bread, Pepper as needed, Salt as needed, 20g of garlic

Instructions:

Cut the lamb into chops of approximately 150 g, season it with pepper and salt,  and brown it in a stewpan. Then, add finely cut dices of onion and let them dry. Pour a small amount of wine before adding the olives and cook it over low heat,  leaving the pan partially covered. Once the lamb is cooked, check that the amount of salt and pepper is correct and sprinkle finely minced parsley over it.
Meanwhile, using another stewpan fry the garlic,  then add the artichokes, after cleaning them and cutting them into four parts, and the potatoes, after cutting them in large squares. Cover them with vegetable stock to soften them. As soon as they are cooked, blend and sieve them.

Follow these recommendations to give a classy touch to your meal. Pour the artichoke cream on the main course plate, place the lamb on top of it and sprinkle it with Carasau bread and raw olive oil.

Carnival celebrations in the Cristallo Hotel will last a whole week. Decorated for the craziest festival of the year, the five-star luxury hotel has prepared unforgettable surprises for its guests.  The party on Saturday 5th March will be a theme dinner in the evening, ending with a buffet of mouth-watering Carnival cakes and sweets from every region in Italy. It will continue with dance music in the disco of the Monkey club for the rest of the night. Its name will be “Jerryto” and it will be made according to the tastes of Jerry Calà. It is meant to celebrate the showman’s return to Cortina and it will probably set the trend for drinks during the Christmas holidays.
This new, very fresh cocktail (without much alcohol) is made with rum, mint, limes, sugar and ginger ale. Any distinguishing signs? A touch of fresh ginger gives the cocktail that “spicy touch” that makes it suitable at any time of the day. The Cristallo Hotel will be the venue of one of the most important events in the summer of Cortina d’Ampezzo, the second edition of “Una Montagna di Libri” [a mountain of books], a series of meetings with writers in Cortina. This successful partnership was extended after last year’s winter edition. A number of great writers and learned scholars will be visiting the “Queen of the Dolomites” during this summer event, which highlights the deep bond the hotel has with culture in general and with local culture in particular. The excellent authors who will be “performing” (in one way or another) on the cultural stages of Cortina will be staying in the luxury five-star hotel. They will be included in a very special project – a guest book that will be drafted in the next months. Two meetings of literature and music have been included in the schedule of events. Participants will be able to enjoy reading with the protagonists of literature while pleasant piano music is played in the background.

Every Thursday in August, the evening meal offered by the Veranda restaurant will be focused on “Italian tastes”. This “food journey” will lead guests and customers through the colours, tastes and smells of the tastiest Mediterranean foods, skilfully prepared by the chef Marco Badalucci, who will add a personal touch to every dish. These gourmand evenings are unique - there will be a different menu every evening. The dishes will be prepared with the freshest and healthiest seasonal products according to the best Mediterranean cooking tradition. This “journey” among the foods of central and southern Italy will allow guests and customers to discover some of the regions that have the tastiest and most famous cooking traditions in the world, such as Calabria, Tuscany, Sicily and, of course, Campania, the region the chef is from. Following the Ampezzo leg of the Polo Audi Gold Cup, which in February attracted countless enthusiasts from the international jet set to Lake Misurina, the Cristallo also acted as partner of the latest and most eagerly awaited international polo event, held in Sardinia, in Porto Cervo, , from 29 May to 5 June. The Cortina Winter Polo Audi Gold Cup, to be held from 20th to 27th February, is a yearly rendezvous not to be missed. The most awaited international polo tournament of the year has now reached its 21st edition, and its sponsor, the Cristallo Hotel Spa & Golf, will participate in the event by hosting an exclusive cocktail for the leading Cup protagonists on Thursday 25th February.

The Cortina Winter Polo will take place on the frozen lake of Misurina, at a height of 1800 metres. The spectacular frozen lake is the stage on which six international teams are to challenge each another. The Cristallo, the Court of King Arthur. On the night of 13th February, the five-star luxury hotel will change completely and turn into the Court of King Arthur for a special party with lots of surprises. Aperitif with cider and mead will be offered from 8 pm onwards in the cocktail bar transformed into a thick forest. A majestic wooden door will lead into the Court where the guests, seated at the horse-shoe table in the court of King Arthur, will enjoy a MEDIEVAL BANQUET, with the medieval delicacies prepared by Marco Badalucci, the hotel’s new chef. Excellent music (medieval, of course) will delight the feasting guests. Harps, bagpipes, flutes and a barrel organ will accompany the voices of two singers. As in all true medieval banquets, a jester will entertain the guests at the court with his juggling and acrobatic skills. No true medieval celebration could be without the most exciting event of them all - a duel between knights, with squires and a herald. After midnight,  a disco will be set up so that guests can dance until dawn.

This year once more, the Dolomites Golden Cup will take place from September 3rd to 6th. During this historical commemoration, the best vintage cars will compete in a race along hairpin bends surrounded by spectacular mountain scenarios. 120 cars, all manufactured before 1961, including the flashy Lancia B24 Aurelia 2500 in sponsorship with the Cristallo Hotel, that will be competing for the trophy.

Dal 12 al 15 Marzo 2009 non perdete l'evento sportivo più frizzante e di tendenza sulle nevi di Cortina d'Ampezzo: il Cortina Snowkite Contest. Il torneo dedicato allo Snowkite, appassionante connubio di sci e vela arrivato da poco sulle nostre vette, per sfruttare la forza del vento e solcare distese di neve con sorprendente naturalezza. Evoluzioni disegnate tra neve e aria, salti, trazioni e accelerazioni: durante il torneo si sfideranno a Cortina i più forti atleti di Snow Kite provenienti da tutto il mondo, con la presenza straordinaria del più volte campione del mondo Guillaume 'Chasta' Chastagnol.
Per festeggiare il termine della competizione, il 14 Marzo dalle ore 22.00 si terrà un'esclusiva serata al Monkey Cocktail & Wine Bar, presso l'Hotel Cristallo, un'occasione non soltanto per divertirsi, ma anche per rivivere i momenti più belli del contest grazie alle foto e ai video che verranno proiettati.

Martedì 24 Febbraio, per il Carnevale il Cristallo si immerge nelle magiche atmosfere medievali, divenendo per un notte un imponente castello con un magico bosco incantato, di cui gli ospiti saranno dame, castellane, paggetti e cavalieri, che si muoveranno in questa magica atmosfera, perdendosi fra le spire del tempo. Un Cocktail con Sidro e Idromele seguito da una cena medievale per riscoprire i sapori dell'epoca, serviti dagli uomini di corte, e il sottofondo del flauto e delle più belle musiche medievali: una serata che vi porter verso luoghi lontani, un Carnevale che non dimenticherete!

Il 20 e 21 Febbraio 2009 l'Hotel Cristallo e il Capri Palace Hotel & SPA si incontrano a Cortina per un evento esclusivo per gli appassionati di enogastronomia.
In queste due serate presso il ristorante panoramico La Veranda del Cristallo sarà possibile degustare il pregiato menù caprese proposto da Oliver Glowig, chef del ristorante L'Olivo del Capri Palace recentemente premiato con la II stella Michelin. Piatti e vini della tradizione campana, in un menu degustazione completo o scelti à la carte, per rivivere a Cortina i sapori e le atmosfere dell'incantevole Isola di Capri.

Dal 9 al 28 febbraio 2009, infatti, il 5 stelle Lusso di Cortina d'Ampezzo ospiterà "L'albero d'oro dalle gemme blu", esclusiva collezione di Preziosi Amaltea by Marzio Forcella, come sempre composta da pezzi unici, creati e realizzati artigianalmente dai laboratori del Designer Marzio Forcella in oro e pietre preziose naturali, con grande attenzione ai piccoli dettagli, alla ricchezza di colore e alla ricerca delle gemme più rare o preziose. La creazione più attesa della collezione e prezioso simbolo dell'intera esposizione sarà il Collier dedicato a Luisa Stoldberg, Contessa d'Albany: uno sbocciare delle più forti tonalità del blu zaffiro e del verde smeraldo, illuminati dal bianco del diamante.

Ursula Chioma, pluripremiata barlady del Cristallo Palace Hotel & Spa, ha vinto il prestigioso premio Miglior Barman dell'Anno. Il 59° Concorso Nazionale Aibes, svoltosi al Palafiori di Sanremo, ha visto sfidarsi i migliori barman provenienti da tutta Italia in una competizione teorico-pratica. Esame scritto di cultura generale, regionale e merceologia del bar, inglese, colloquio orale e preparazione di un cocktail sono state le prove che hanno decretato la vittoria di Ursula.
