A CORTINA MADE OF STARS
A planetarium in the pearl of the Dolomites
Thanks to the Associazione Astronomica Cortina and the Municipal Administration, a planetarium was inaugurated in Cortina in 2009, the International Year of Astronomy, and dedicated to Nicolò Cusano, the great mathematician, philosopher, theologian and astronomer, who stayed in Cortina on 27 April 1460.
With a diameter of 8.4 metres and a capacity of 60 people, the planetarium is a technological gem. Thanks to the incredible Digitarium Alpha+, a digital video projector made by the American company Digitalisi, you can observe not only any part of the sky with reference to a particular hour, season or latitude, but you can also explore the simulated, accelerated movements of the sky, Sun, Moon and planets. The planetarium is an extraordinary educational tool for discovering the secrets of the sky and travelling in space. It offers an opportunity for fun and learning to add to the multiplicity of activities that Cortina has in store for visitors
