Cristallo for Tradition
Cortina d’Ampezzo is not just a luxury destination from the past and an excellent ski location, it is also the cradle of a culture that roots back to the medieval Germanic domination. As a matter of fact, to witness of this historic moment, there are still some rules in force, the so called Regole Ampezzane, a special kind of collective property which involves all the forestry and grazing land of the valley. These ancestral institutions state that these territories are and remain property of the early inhabitants (also known as regolieri), on the one hand excluding the opportunity for other citizens to accede to these places, and on the other preserving the preciousness of the nature and local ecology. It is thanks to these attentions that the 16.000 hectares forming this area have preserved its authenticity throughout the years.
To control the balance among all the regolieri, some rules have been made, under the name of laudi: every owner can use the wood to heat and to build, forbidding its commerce and, consequently, profits. Anyway, this did not prevent the near Repubblica Marinara from buying this wood in order to create a famous sea legend: the military and merchant fleet of Venice. As a payback beside settle the bond with the Lagoon, the Cadore and Amepezzo had a discreet quantity of raw materials such as wheat, wine, fabric, utensils and furniture, necessary for the inhabitants.
There is also a place where all this is ruled: that is the Casa delle regole, one of the most beautiful palaces of Corso Italia, nowadays also headquarter of the three Musei delle Regole d’Ampezzo.
Be it for skiing, for relax or simply for the pure air of these mountains, a stay in Cortina d’Ampezzo conceals a traditional taste worthy of a real Queen.
